Lunafest Is Coming To Oakland
Likely you already are aware of my love for Camp Reel Stories, a program in Oakland, CA designed for girls ages 13-18 who want to get into media. It’s designed to empower and equip young women interested in the media with the skills, inspiration and tools they need to become leaders in the media industry. I’m thrilled to see that Camp Reel Stories is now partnering with Lunafest, a traveling film festival that spotlights the diverse work of some very talented women filmmakers. What a perfect partnership–women in film mentoring and inspiring young girls who also love film.
Lunafest was established by LUNA, the people who make those yummy nutrition bars, the LunaBar. Like Camp Reel Stories, the team at Luna is passionate about supporting and empowering women and girls and they firmly believe that the key to a better portrayal of girls and women on screen is directly related to getting more women behind the scenes in media. They are bringing a festival to Oakland very soon!
The Lunafest Oakland will be held at Humanist Hall on November 6, 2014 at 7p.m. You can watch the trailer of short films by, for and about women that will be presented here and I guarantee you will be inspired and intrigued. Not only will you be able to view the short films at Lunafest, but they will also be having a small silent auction at the event to raise funds for Camp Reel Stories’ advanced camp they will be having this upcoming summer.
I am such a believer in supporting girls and women in the film industry and this will be a great opportunity to do just that. Camp Reel Stories is a vital effort for the future of the film and media industry. Lunafest is another way to support this great program and women who are making films. Who doesn’t love a night of watching movies? Check it out and perhaps I will see you there!
