What I’m Up To Next

brenda chapman lucasfilm animation So, the cat is out of the bag. The beans have been spilt. Yes, I’ve left Pixar. It’s good to be moving on after Brave and looking to the future.

As some of you seem to already know (ah, the marvel of technology), I’ve started consulting for Lucasfilm Animation. I am not directing. This was a wonderful opportunity to work with someone whom I’ve admired from a distance in the film industry for years: Kathleen Kennedy. I was completely surprised and honored when she asked me to work with her on this particular project – which I am not at liberty to discuss. (Sorry, I know you wanna know, but I just can’t tell ya.) I feel very privileged to have this opportunity, even for a short time.

In the meantime, I’m traveling all over the country for a variety of speaking engagements (and meeting some great people) and I’m diligently working on writing and illustrating my books and developing other projects. The books are slow going, but I’m determined to finish them!! Time! Where does it hide?

Still, it’s wonderful to have the time to explore some of the things I truly love and to be fortunate enough to have some of the opportunities that have and are coming my way. And being able to share them with you—that makes them even better.

I do hope to direct again. But I’m taking my time to create or choose the right project—and it feels wonderful to have that sort of flexibility and freedom. Hopefully by the time I’ve identified a project, someone out there will want to help me make it. Wish me luck!

And thank you to those who have encouraged me to get back on the horse… from the bottom of my heart.

      Aw. Thank you! 🙂

Not that you need it! I know it was a difficult time at Pixar with everything that happened with Brave (which I have just seen and loved!) but I find those difficult times propel us forward in unexpected ways and we look back thinking wow if that hadn’t have happened I wouldn’t have done all this other amazing stuff. That is clearly the case with you. You have become such an inspiration to so many people myself included! How exciting that you are moving onto so many other things! I have to say also the Motivarti Mentorship Program is going to be a wonderful thing too. I didn’t make it to the final 10. Although I would have loved to get it, I genuinely got so much out of applying, I really did. I’m so grateful you encouraged me to go for it. It felt good saying yes to something rather than no i’m not good enough yet. What a lesson! See! look at you changing peoples lives for the better! Definite Fairy God Mother 😉
